Why is it that New Zealand is part of the British Commonwealth but yet get treated really bad by Britain.?

New Zealand is an independent country. The commonwealth is not much more than a friendly club these days. It works the other way too, British citizens have no automatic right of abode or any easier time gaining residence in commonwealth countries who all have their own laws and regulations to satisfy.
