I planted potatoes this for the first time. I harvested them yesterday and I only got back the same amount as ?

I planted. I used old rotted manure and coated the potato seeds with sulfur. I planted the recommended depth and mounded the soil up around the plants as they grew. I thought the idea was to get more back than you planted. What did I do wrong?
