Why do people of different social status have different voices/accents?

Compare Angus Young, to the presenters of Antiques Roadshow or At The Movies (Australian film review show), to a member of Crusty Demons or a footballer, to the principal of an elite school, even if they're all from the same place so there's no difference in accent because of nationality, they've all got different voices. Why is it?
