Chemotherapy success rate?
An oncologist , a doctor who specializes in cancer treatment should be the one to answer this question if your father is found to have esophageal cancer. the first line of treatment for esophageal cancer usually is surgery, this I know because I work in the operating room. Chemotherapy is usually the next step in treatment. The success of the treatment depends on the stage and metastisis (spread) of cancer cells in the body. Also each type of cancer has a different cell cycle and responds to chemotherapy differently, that is why there is so many different chemotherapy drugs. New drugs come out all the time . It would be best for your dad if someone goes with him to the Dr who can listen and write down the information that he gets because it's very hard for a newly diagnosed cancer patient to take in the fact he has cancer let alone all the information for making the decisions he needs to make for his treatment.
